London Police Arrest Sage Employee on Fraud Charges

An employee at accounting software company Sage has been arrested in London in connection with an alleged fraud against the company, according to police.

A report by BBC said the 32-year-old Sage employee was apprehended at Heathrow airport on Wednesday. Sage provides cloud-based accounting and business software to organizations in 23 countries around the world.

The woman has been released on bail. City of London police said in a statement that she is a current employee of Sage.

Earlier this week Sage made headlines for an internal security breach, exposing the data of up to 280 U.K.-based customers. The company is working with authorities to investigate, and details of the security incident remain scarce.

Nearly one-quarter of all data breaches are still caused by compromised credentials, according to recent research by the Cloud Security Alliance.
