Kaspersky Lab Prepares Cloud Security Moves
Kaspersky Lab, the anti-virus specialist that recently attracted equity funding, appears poised to expand its cloud security initiatives. Watch for potential details to surface at the Kaspersky Lab Americas Partner Conference (February 3-6, Riviera Maya, Mexico). The name you need to know: Maksym Schipka, director of R&D in Europe for Kaspersky Lab. Take a closer look and you’ll learn Schipka is responsible for Kaspersky Hosted Security.
Schipka has extensive experience in the SaaS market. He previously was a senior architect at MessageLabs — which Symantec acquired in 2008 and migrated into the Symantec Hosted Services business (apparently rebranded as Symantec.cloud).
Meanwhile, Kaspersky Lab spent late 2009 and 2010 recruiting channel talent to the company — including Global Channel Chief Nancy Reynolds (a Trend Micro and Dell veteran). My central question: How will Schipka ensure the Kaspersky Hosted Security effort aligns with Reynolds’ channel priorities?
Over the past year or two, most of the major anti-virus companies have introduced recurring revenue models for channel partners. Some folks call it managed services pricing; others call it service provider licensing. Either way, TalkinCloud intends to learn where Schipka intends to take Kaspersky Hosted Security. The answers will surface at the partner conference… or perhaps sooner.
