Japan’s IDC Frontier Upgrades Cloud on HP Network Switches
Hewlett Packard announced that IDC Frontier, a major data-center provider in Japan, has selected HP Networking to support its network infrastructure and meet the rising demand for its cloud services. IDC Frontier began providing cloud services in Japan in 2009.
“We needed to upgrade our existing network to keep pace with the growing market for cloud computing throughout Japan,” said IDC director Yutaka Shindo, in a prepared statement. “HP Networking switches provide a solid foundation for us to expand our infrastructure and meet the needs of customers looking to deploy cloud services in the country.”
IDC Frontier required a network upgrade for its new on-demand public cloud offering, NOAH Self Type and selected the HP 5820 Switch Series for its scalability, supporting increased network bandwidth for IDC’s nine data centers in Japan. In addition, IDC Frontier connected its data centers using the HP Intelligent Resilient Framework, a virtualization platform allowing multiple switches to operate as a single switch.
Also in the news, northern Japan suffered a 6.8 magnitude earthquake on March 14, and a magnitude 6.1 temblor occurred east of Tokyo several hours little. Reuters reported that there were no initial damage reports or complications at nuclear power plants in the area. One year ago, Talkin Cloud reported that despite the massive 9.0 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear emergency cloud services in Japan were largely unaffected, a ray of sunshine, arguably, in the midst of a natural disaster and humanitarian crisis.
