Intel Wants To Spend A Day In The Cloud
Your humble correspondent is jet-lagged and ready for a nap following a full day spent traveling to rainy Portland, Ore. But it was worth it. After all, I had to make it to the Intel Day In The Cloud Event, where I’ll have the chance to find out more about the chip giant’s Cloud Builders Initiative straight from the source — Intel cloud engineers and executives will be on hand to talk the nuts and bolts of their strategy. Here’s a quick look at what TalkinCloud hopes to hear more about.
The Intel Cloud Builders Initiative, in the company’s own words, is a “cross-industry initiative aimed at making it easier to build, enhance, and operate cloud infrastructure. Intel Cloud Builders is relevant to enterprises, hosters, telcos, and service providers looking for transformational guidance that will yield more simplified, secure, and efficient cloud infrastructure.”
TalkinCloud Editorial Director Joe Panettieri wondered as recently as the Parallels Summit where smaller MSPs and VARs fit into that initiative.
While detailed answers are still forthcoming, I had the chance to sit down with Intel Chief Cloud Engineer Billy Cox for dinner, and he made specific mention of the fact that Intel and its cloud ecosystem partners have no desire to compete with the channel.
After all, cloud infrastructure providers like Terremark have no interest in going into a small business and customizing a solution the same way a value-added service provider might. And Cox also points out that, after all, Intel is banking on the fact that the channel pro already has a customer relationship with said SMBs.
At the Day In The Cloud event itself, Intel will be presenting the press in attendance with the Intel Cloud Builders pitch, tying it into the company’s Cloud 2015 strategy around federated clouds providing client-aware services. And I’m hearing through the grapevine that Parallels VP of Marketing and Alliances and cloud expert John Zanni will be in attendance, among other Intel strategic partners, which should make for interesting conversation.
By the time you read this, I should be hip-deep in Intel’s cloud strategy, so keep watching TalkinCloud for updates from the Intel Day In The Cloud Event.
