For reference, Tier III means that Datacraft’s onecloud data centers are now certified to run 24/7, with a design specifically to avoid downtime in the event of maintenance or hardware replacement, according to the press release. Datacraft’s design-build partner for all of these sites is Emerson Network Power India.

So just how important is the tier certification standard for service providers? Incredibly, according to Uptime Institute, which certifies data centers worldwide. Here’s what VP Julian Kudritzki had to say on the matter in a prepared statement:

“These Certifications demonstrate that the Tiers are both applicable and recognizable around the world. The Tier system allows comparison and recognition of data center strength and sophistication that transcend borders or time zones. In India and the 29 other countries where we are awarding Tier Certifications to data centers, there is no conflict between code, regulation, or law and the Uptime Institute’s Standards.”

Uptime Institute certainly isn’t alone in the data center certification market. A range of companies and organizations offer certifications and accreditations to VARs, MSPs, hosting providers and data center specialists that are pushing into cloud computing. The latest such offering is the MSPAlliance‘s Unified Certification Standard for Cloud and Managed Services Providers.
