IndependenceIT has build out its management team with the hiring of former VMware (VMW) Strategic Alliances manager Jason Peoples.

Peoples, who joins IndependenceIT as the executive vice president of Sales and General Manager, will be tasked with driving sales of the company’s desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) offering, Cloud Workspace Suite. The DaaS has apparently been seeing an uptake in interest lately, as IndependenceIT has signed on several partners and distributors, including Arrow’s ArrowSphere delivery platform (ARW), Amazon Web Services and Google (GOOG).

As an industry veteran with more than 17 years of experience, Peoples has experience technology-related sales, marketing and management. While at VMware, he served as the strategic alliances manager for AirWatch, but before that, he held roles with several other companies, including vice president of Sales for healthcare technology provider MediKeeper, vice president of Business Development at Diversinet and director of Channel Development at VeriSign, among other organizations in the tech space.

“IndependenceIT is one company that has focused on automation and ease-of-use from the beginning along with a ‘bring your own cloud’ deployment model that provides incredible IT value for enterprises and service providers seeking more agile computing solutions,” Peoples said in a statement. “I’m honored to join the team and look forward to driving further adoption of the innovative application and DaaS delivery platform to customers worldwide.”

The company claims strong market demand for Cloud Workspace Suite is attracting “top talent” to its organization. Analysts place the value of the overall virtual client computing market at $4.7 billion by 2018, which would be a 68 percent increase over the market’s size in 2013.

For IndependenceIT, bringing on skilled and experienced talent to drive sales, particularly through the channel, could open up new market opportunities and build out its customer base.

“Jason’s relevant experience and deep background in sales, partnerships, marketing and corporate development throughout his career make him an excellent fit as we focus on quickly expanding our footprint worldwide,” said Seth Bostock, CEO of IndependenceIT, in a prepared statement. “With the market maturing at a rapid pace, he will be invaluable and complement our mission as a technology leader in simplified IT management solutions for application and DaaS delivery.”
