IBM will use Virtustream's xStream software to deliver SAP and SAP HANA environments on the SoftLayer cloud.

IBM (IBM) yesterday announced it will use Virtustream‘s xStream software to deliver SAP (ADR) and SAP HANA environments on the SoftLayer cloud.

xStream will allow companies to move their mission-critical SAP applications to the SoftLayer cloud, Virtustream said.

xStream enables customers to deploy mission-critical and production applications in cloud environments.

The software can be added to existing physical or virtualized infrastructures to provide hybrid, private and public clouds.

Virtustream noted xStream supports both production and test and development environments and “delivers dynamic cloud efficiency, on-demand scale, assured performance and enhanced security.”

The SoftLayer cloud now will enable customers to migrate and run the entire SAP portfolio in the cloud, including:

  • SAP B1

  • SAP BI

  • SAP BW

  • SAP ECC/ERP

  • SAP HANA

IBM General Manager of Cloud Services James Comfort commented on the announcement in a prepared statement:

“Businesses today are looking for ways to lower the cost of deployment and gain greater efficiency in addressing new market opportunity. By delivering SAP applications using the SoftLayer cloud running Virtustream’s Cloud Management Platform (CMP) software, companies will now have broader choices and new levels of control to design the cloud environment best suited to their business.”

Virtustream also will utilize SoftLayer data centers and cloud infrastructure to expand its own infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS).
