As IBM continues to bang the drum for its SmartCloud initiative, Big Blue has also positioned itself as a founding sponsor of the Cloud Standards Customer Council (CSCC). The end-user advocacy group will strive to accelerate the cloud’s adoption — focusing on standards, security and interoperability issues. The Council will be headed by Object Management Group (OMG), an international, open membership and non-profit computer industry consortium since 1989.

“Our standard for the cloud is that it has to be open and it has to be run by clients,” said IBM Senior VP Robert LeBlanc. CA, Kaavo, Rackspace and Software AG are joining IBM as CSCC founding sponsors. So far, Lockheed Martin, Citigroup and North Carolina State University — along with companies that OMG calls “the world’s leading organizations” have already joined the CSCC.

The CSCC’s goal is to give voice to customers — both large corporations and small businesses — who have specific requests as to what they want to see in their cloud server. Two ways the Council plans to do this:
