HP Set To Build Cloud Infrastructure At SHI International
Call it a big cloud win for Hewlett-Packard. Specifically, SHI International is a $3 billion global IT software, hardware and service provider that needed a new IaaS Cloud Center. HP Networking solutions has been selected as the vendor of choice to build out and implement the new center.
Clearly, HP is crowing about the win. SHI’s complex requirements included a “service core” architecture, which was built upon HP Converged Services scaffolding. The core is actually a predefined collection of servers, storage and networking infrastructure that is redundantly replicated to create a robust cloud center. It sounds a little to TalkinCloud like the Cisco Unified Computing System, which melds servers, storage and networking together.
With SHI’s implementation and HP’s backbone, SHI plans on providing “industrial-grade” VMs for IT users that can be used for application deployment, disaster recovery and outsourced IT solutions. SHI says they can also use this new infrastructure for “burst” computing services on demand, such as when e-tailers need new servers temporarily during heavy traffic times.
SHI’s choice of HP was also fueled by HP’s open standards-based technology, along with the HP Intelligent Resilient Framework, which can blend multiple switches into a single virtualized “network fabric” that enables a single at-a-glance reworking of protocols and ‘virtual’ wired connections.
For cloud integrators that are curious about this project, the HP A12500 and HP Intelligent Management Center are the heart of this implementation.
