HP Invites Users to an OpenStack Cloud Services Test Drive

HP is inviting partners, customers and developers to take its new HP Cloud Compute and HP Cloud Object Storage public cloud services for a test run with the launch of a private beta program. Those services, built on HP cloud infrastructure, and combined with the ever-growing OpenStack platform, represent the first fruits of a partnership announced about a month ago.

According to the official press release, in an effort to appeal to the cloud ISV community HP saw it necessary to combine its well-established hardware and software plays with an emerging open source standard — namely, OpenStack itself. All of that integration happens behind the scenes, with administrators making use of HP’s web-based GUI to manage their cloud service deployments.

As you may have guessed from their names, HP Cloud Compute aims to generate and scale compute instances on demand. HP Cloud Object Storage is a scalable cloud storage platform optimized for data backup and archiving, serving static data to applications and hosting online media such as photos or videos.

According to HP, the goal with this beta program is to further develop the offering ahead of an official release, with HP openly soliciting comments and suggestions from the user base. Just check out the HP Cloud website to register and potentially land a slot in the beta.

Basically, it seems as though HP wants to turn these public cloud services into a pillar of its overall cloud play, alongside HP CloudSystem and HP Enterprise Cloud Services.

TalkinCloud will be keeping close watch on HP’s cloud and partner strategy going forward, so don’t touch that dial.
