HP and VMware Team Up for Cloud Security
HP and VMware are getting buddy-buddy to provide a new security technology for the cloud. It’s based on a next-generation intrusion prevention system (IPS) optimized for the VMware vSphere cloud and virtual environment.
HP’s TippingPoint IPS technology is now integrated with VMware vSphere deployments through the VMware vShield and vCloud Director technologies. With that level of integration, the two companies can maintain a “pervasive” level of security in the cloud via unified management and automated identification and scanning processes. Short version: It’s a more robust solution that also makes it easier to protect virtualized environments.
The collaboration also includes a joint-marketing hardware and software solution that combines HP’s TippingPoint vController with VMware’s vShield App and Edge protection. Again, the focus is on easier, better protection. Both of these technologies will be demoed at RSA 2011 at HP’s booth (1324).
The joint HP TippingPoint IPS vController and VMware vShield solution is available now and supported via HP Services. Channel partners can sell it, too.
