HostingCon: MSPs Meet Cloud Computing, Storage Services?
Web hosting providers are familiar with the HostingCon conference (July 16-18, Boston). But it sounds like this year’s conference will attract MSPs (managed services providers) that are evaluating cloud services and cloud computing strategies. Channel-friendly names like OnApp, Symantec, Parallels and SoftLayer will attempt to grab the spotlight at the conference. And watch for some surprises from Nirvanix, a fast-growing cloud storage provider that’s seeking to more closely engage MSPs as channel partners.
Nirvanix offers a “Virtual Cloud Storage Service Provider Package” designed for MSPs. According to a prepared statement, Nirvanix claims:
“With this package, MSPs can resell or white-label the range of Nirvanix cloud storage services — private, hybrid, or public deployment options — and rapidly enter the multi-billion dollar cloud storage market…”
Numerous storage companies have been pursuing MSPs as channel partners and customers. In some scenarios, the MSPs plug into a third-party storage service. In others, the MSP runs the storage service in its own data center. And in yet another, increasingly popular scenario, cloud backup services and transforming into business continuity services — offering MSPs the ability to recover customer networks in a virtualized cloud setting when an on-premises network goes dark.
Many of those scenarios will grab mind share at HostingCon. Talkin’ Cloud will be reporting live from the conference.
