Hosted Service Provider Internap Launches Cloud Storage
Internap Network Services, which focuses mainly on hosting services and colocation, has entered into a new market with the launch of the XIPCloud Storage solution. It’s currently in beta, but Internap says that it already addresses many common issues with cloud storage by boosting speed, guaranteeing 100% uptime, and — most notably — leveraging OpenStack Object Storage to keep the system open and avoid vendor lock-in.
In their press release, Internap says that XIPCloud Storage is a natural extension of their Performance ITIM managed and infrastructure service technology for enterprises of all sizes. It’s a self-provisioning solution, and users can log in to Internap’s web portal and purchase more network bandwidth or storage capacity as needed. And Internap says that they have the technology in place to optimize traffic and make sure that the customer gets the most bang for their bandwidth buck.
And as a quick refresher: OpenStack is an open cloud standard promoted by Rackspace Hosting and endorsed by companies like Dell and Canonical. To the best of TalkinCloud’s knowledge, this is the first time Internap has publicly put its stamp of approval on OpenStack.
