Google Simplifies Site Search Pricing
Despite forays into cloud productivity, telephony, and even self-driving cars, search remains Google’s bread and butter. And for many enterprises, the go-to search solution is Google Site Search, which leverages the company’s search algorithm to search their own sites. And now Google has simplified the pricing of Google Site Search, with plans starting at just $100 a year. Here’s the scoop.
According to the Google Enterprise Blog, the former billing model on Site Search was a complicated one that was based on both the number of user-submitted search queries and the number of pages indexed. The new pricing scheme only takes into account the number of annual searches. The idea is that it’s easier to predict how much you’ll pay and scale up as your business does.
The tiers now start at $100 for 20,000 annual search queries, which Google suggests for blogs and personal sites. It scales up from there to hit roughly $50 per 10,000 searches — the next tier up is 50,000 for $250, suggested for small businesses. Of course, if you’re anticipating more than 500,000 searches per year, you need to talk to Google’s sales team.
Another part of the announcement is that they’ve doubled their on-demand indexing quota for all plans, which means new sites are added and searchable quickly. The new scheme officially went into effect on November 12th, and applies to new accounts and renewals.
Between Google Site Search and the Google Search Appliance — not to mention the core Google.com search engine — Google seems focused on giving service providers the ability to help their clients find anything anywhere at any time.
