Google Marketplace Darling Manymoon Gets Acquired By Salesforce
Manymoon, developers of the eponymous popular SaaS social productivity tool, was 2010’s most-downloaded offering from the Google Apps Marketplace. By the company’s own reckoning, over 50,000 businesses were using their application. So it’s no wonder that cloud computing mainstay Salesforce.com snapped Manymoon in recent days to bolster their own social play.
Prior to acquisition, Manymoon was available on the Google Apps Marketplace, the Google Chrome Web Store, and LinkedIn, with an eye towards providing a fully-integrated social task and project management solution for each platform. So what looks to change with this acquisition? Not much.
According to Manymoon’s blog post on the acquisition, Salesforce has no plans to delist the product from any marketplace it’s listed on, no plans to cut support, and no plans to change the pricing plans for premium customers. In other words, Salesforce has no intention of messing with a winning formula.
And on the other side of things, Manymoon says that Salesforce can provide the support, scalability, and overall performance they need to take the offering to the next level. But the key point is that Salesforce.com will slowly see Manymoon’s feature set integrated.
Here’s TalkinCloud’s two cents: for a company that once told The VAR Guy that there will never be a Microsoft of the cloud, Salesforce is certainly making a few non-ERP related acquisitions. But on the other hand, Microsoft would never let the product be sold in a competitor’s marketplace.
