Google Drive: Replacing On-premises File Servers?
SADA Systems, a Google Apps and Microsoft Office 365 partner, sees a huge opportunity to migrate on-premises file server data to Google Drive — the search giant’s cloud storage service. But are corporate customers really ready to let go of their file servers?
SADA is certainly saying yes. The company has launched the File Server Migration to Google Drive service. The cloud consulting firm says the service is ideal for customers that want to shift on-premises files — documents, PDFs, etc. — to the cloud.
In a prepared statement, SADA Systems President and CEO Tony Safoian said: “Google Drive for Enterprise is the evolution of the enterprise-grade file server. With so many organizations migrating email to the cloud, file servers are the next natural step in the progression. Organizations running any email system can now use Google Drive for a secure, inexpensive, enterprise-class file server in the cloud experience.”
The new SADA service is available within the Google Apps Marketplace.
Google Drive, meanwhile, is seeking to disrupt on-premise storage while also competing with Apple iCloud, Box, Dropbox, Microsoft SkyDrive.
