Google Drive for Work Signing Up 1,800 Customers Weekly

How well is Google Drive (GOOG) stacking up against its competitors in the cloud storage and file sync and share market? According to the cloud company, it is doing quite well, signing up more than 1,800 businesses every week for Google Drive.

Scott Johnston, director of product management for Google Drive, wrote in a blog post, "Today more than 1,800 businesses sign up for Drive for Work each week. Customers like WeddingWire are taking advantage of the full capabilities of Drive for Work to help provide their employees with the collaboration and file sharing tools they need on any device, whether they’re in the office or on the road."

Google first introduced Drive for Work in June, extending its consumer cloud storage offering to the business space and launching a cloud service intended to go head-to-head against the likes of Dropbox, Box and the variety of other cloud storage and file sync and share services that are on the market.

According to Johnston, more than 190 million people are currently using Drive, although that number is based on the overall figures for both the consumer- and business-grade versions of Drive.

Johnston also put emphasis on the importance of the partner ecosystem for Google Drive, stressing that many partners are building tools on top of the cloud storage service.

"In addition to the new Audit view built into the admin console, Drive for Work also includes an Audit API that partners have used to build advanced insight and security extensions like data loss prevention (DLP). Other partners have built tools to help move business content into Drive from any location, including old file servers, local hard drives or other cloud storage products," Johnston wrote.
