Former Intronis CEO Kent Plunkett: Getting back in the SaaS game?

Former Intronis CEO Kent Plunkett has joined (or perhaps launched) SkyTec Holdings as CEO, according to his LinkedIn profile. It sounds like the cloud backup veteran is getting back into the SaaS market, though SkyTec’s business focus remains in stealth mode.

Plunkett has worked in and around the SaaS market for several years. He’s perhaps best known for leading Salary.com, the SaaS HR technology firm, from founding to its 2007 IPO. Salary.com was acquired in 2010 and is now part of IBM’s Cloud Application Business (within the Kenexa business).

More recently, Plunkett was CEO of Intronis, where he invested in the cloud-based backup company and led Intronis to continued growth. Still, he exited in late 2012 and Intronis had layoffs in early 2013 to reset its marketing and sales expenses. New Intronis CEO Rick Faulk has since stated that the company is exceeding its business performance goals.

Meanwhile, GoDaddy indicates that Plunkett registered the SkyTec URL back in 2000. We’ll be watching to see when the holding company emerges from stealth mode, and how Plunkett plans to attack the SaaS opportunity.
