Flexera Software is working with Microsoft (MSFT) to help application developers migrate their enterprise apps to the Azure cloud.

The Itasca, Illinois-based software licensing, compliance and installation solutions provider today announced the FlexNet Licensing software licensing solution now enables app developers to migrate their enterprise apps to Azure while leveraging Flexera Software’s monetization and protection capabilities.

“App developers that have previously protected their applications with FlexNet Licensing can now tell their customers that they can use that software in the Microsoft Azure environment,” a Flexera Software spokesperson told Talkin’ Cloud.

Flexera Software noted the FlexNet Licensing-Microsoft partnership enables enterprises to expand to the cloud from their data center.

The collaboration also allows app developers to provide app hosting, according to Flexera Software.

“As producers weigh their cloud strategies, they must select a pathway that gives them ultimate flexibility to monetize their applications in hosted environments and at the same time protect their intellectual property,” Flexera Software CEO Mark Bishof said in a prepared statement. “Flexera Software has given producers the tools they need to leverage Azure to quickly address shifting preferences for cloud-based solutions, open up new revenue streams and ensure they’re getting compensated for their software.”

What does FlexNet Licensing offer app developers?

Flexera Software said FlexNet Licensing is used in over 20,000 apps and gives app developers a seamless path to monetize their customers’ migrations to the cloud.

The company also noted app developers can use FlexNet Licensing “to capture additional revenue streams by attracting new customers through different usage models that align to different demand scenarios.”

“Because Flexera Software’s licensing technology is embedded in many leading enterprise applications, the collaboration announced today means independent software vendors (ISVs) now have a tried, tested and trusted pathway to host those solutions in Azure,” said Mike Wickstrand, Microsoft Azure’s senior director of product marketing.
