Network security policy management provider FireMon is acquiring Lumeta to expand the capabilities of its firewall management security platform.

Lumeta provides real-time visibility into the extended network and across all connected endpoints. Its technology is used by large network operators (government and enterprise) to gain network “situational awareness” – identifying and analyzing all network connectivity – connections to the cloud, unidentified routers, mobile devices — so they can find previously unknown devices and cloud services.

FireMon said the company’s technology will allow its customers to extend intent-based security to on-premises and cloud assets that were previously unknown, and “ensure the right security measures are in place in an automated way utilizing an organization’s existing security infrastructure.”

Kurt Mills, FireMon’s vice president of worldwide channel sales and operations, tells Channel Partners his company plans to include Lumeta’s services as a part of the FireMon portfolio and make them available for purchase through channel partners.

“Customers are struggling to manage their security programs across disparate vendors and tools, and ensure their compliance to internal technical guidelines and industry regulations,” he said. “Our partners will be able to provide a more complete solution that will help customers get a better grasp of their entire attack surface and the tools to implement better, compliant security programs in a more controlled, automated way.”

Lumeta’s technology helps security teams identify all assets (new devices, routers, cloud resources) on their network – on-premises and in the cloud – and to understand how they are connected and how they communicate in real-time, Mills said.

The acquisition, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to be completed before the end of next month. Upon closing, FireMon plans to continue operating Lumeta as a standalone business, while additional resources are provided to accelerate Lumeta’s continued technology development and integration with FireMon. Reggie Best will continue as Lumeta’s president and serve on Firemon’s executive leadership team.

“We are finding that we have many of the same channel-partner relationships, and we will work with those partners to drive the forward-looking go-to-market strategy with the FireMon and Lumeta solutions,” Mills said. “We will integrate the two companies’ partner programs and ecosystems in the very near future. We will have further detail on those plans in the next few weeks.”

Lumeta and FireMon share a “vision for deeper integration across the security industry,” said Satin Mirchandani, FireMon’s CEO.

“For example, Lumeta built Spectre with two-way RESTful APIs, which has resulted in proven integrations with leading security vendors, including McAfee ePO, IBM QRadar, Carbon Black, Cisco, Tenable, InfoBlox and Qualys,” he said. “This pairs well with FireMon’s vendor-agnostic approach to solving customers’ problems. Additionally, Lumeta’s history, which dates back to the legendary innovation center Bell Labs, perfectly complements FireMon’s business model and technology strategy.”
