Eucalyptus Partner Day: Can VARs and Open-Source Cloud Connect?
Eucalyptus Systems is set to gather reseller partners old and new in San Francisco on June 22. The reason: It’s time for Eucalyptus to lay out where their open-source cloud platform stands, along with potential channel partner opportunities. Here’s what to expect.
Back in March 2010, Marten Mickos, best known as the man who built MySQL into an estimated $100 million enterprise, made headlines when he stepped in at Eucalyptus in the role of CEO. But even before that, a partnership with Canonical to provide the platform at the heart of the Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud beginning with 2009’s Ubuntu Server Edition 9.10 garnered Eucalyptus a lot of notice.
Mickos and Eucalyptus CTO and co-founder Rich Wolski will be on hand at Eucalyptus Partner Day to lay out the company’s strategy and roadmap, as well as to share where they see cloud trends going. Also presenting will be key partners and customers like GroundWork Open Source, Terracotta, Novell, Trend Micro, and, naturally, Canonical, showing off their Eucalyptus solutions, according to the press release.
The last time we spoke with Mickos, he said that one of his main priorities for Eucalyptus was to put the spotlight on its partner program, and Eucalyptus Partner Day next week seems to be a strong step in that direction. Whether or not it ends up opening dialogue between Eucalyptus and its reseller base remains an open question, so stay tuned to The VAR Guy for more.
