EMC Launches VSPEX Infrastructure for Cloud Environments

Cloud computing and virtualization company EMC (NYSE: EMC) launched its VSPEX Proven Infrastructure, a cloud reference architecture using industry standard technology, designed to enable partners to implement cloud environments easily and quickly.

VSPEX consists of EMC storage systems and backup applications, as well as virtualization, server and network technology from EMC partners including Brocade, Cisco Systems, Citrix, Intel, Microsoft, and VMware.

VSPEX customers can choose a private cloud setup by running VMware vSphere 5.0 or Microsoft Windows Hyper-V from 50 to 250 virtual machines. For the 50 to 2,000 virtual desktop range, customers can employ either VMware View or Citrix XenDesktop. Full details are available on the EMC website. Currently, 14 VSPEX configurations currently exist; these are focused on accelerating setup of private cloud and end user computing environments. Subsequent configurations are possible based on partner demand.

Why VSPEX? In response to that question, Greg Ambulos, SVP of Global Channel Sales, said in an EMC blog:

“Because there are thousands of customers out there who want to get into the cloud, and that starts with virtualization. But smaller accounts, where our partners play, may not have the resources or the IT expertise to manage the transition to the cloud. Those customers look for a trusted advisor for help—our partners—and what we’re providing is a pre-validated architecture for a virtual infrastructure that the partner can deliver quickly, simply, with low risk and high efficiency.”

According to EMC, VSPEX benefits for channel partners include:

  • Increased Market Opportunity – With VSPEX, channel partners can now sell complete, highly-flexible solutions to their customers, resulting in a higher attach rate of components, and a bigger sale.

  • Faster Time to Market – VSPEX offers channel partners complete configuration and sizing guidelines for the most common workloads that can reduce the requirements collection phase of the sales cycle. VSPEX adds significant value to the partner’s sales process by reducing integration and validation costs while still getting all the benefits of delivering complete solutions.

  • Partner Branded and Customizable Solution – VSPEX allows partners to brand their VSPEX solution and increase their mindshare in the customer’s environment.

  • VSPEX Labs – Partners can leverage EMC‘s investment in the new VSPEX Labs to test additional infrastructures in collaboration with EMC and other VSPEX partners.

Earlier this month Cisco and EMC teamed up to provide training in the rapidly developing areas of cloud architecture, virtualization, storage and data center networking. The joint effort will offer certifications in cloud computing, Big Data and data science, as well as next-generation IT infrastructure.
