Dropmysite Appoints Former Google EMEA Exec Head as CEO

The former business development head of Google (GOOG) South East Asia is taking over leadership of Dropmysite, a company that focuses on providing email, website and database services, but has also recently shifted into mobile cloud services. Charif El Ansari has taken over as CEO from John Fearon, who will assume more responsibilities at his investment holding firm, Gilgrux Holdings.

El Ansari will be tasked with furthering Dropmysite's SaaS business, and the company is hoping the technology veteran, who held senior roles at both Google and Dell before joining Dropmysite, will bring it more credibility.

El Ansari left Google in 2012 to join Dropmysite. Since then, he has led the company's efforts in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), but with this change in position, El Ansari has relocated to Dropmysite headquarters in Singapore and has taken over Fearon's role.

"Global cloud storage will grow 4X by 2016 and with 41 percent of the online audience in Asia, backing up the Internet from Singapore has a lot of potential," said El Ansari in a prepared statement.

Dropmysite's tagline is it aims to "back up the Internet," and it is still an emerging player in the cloud services market. However, it is poised to launch Dropmymobile to take its SaaS offerings to mobile devices. The app will back up entire mobile phones—everything from contacts and text messages to pictures of your kids.

The company remains under the purview of Gilcrux, which has invested in seven startup companies and plans to invest in even more.

The addition of a former Google business development manager looks not only to be a good business decision, but also good marketing. Google has made significant progress in the Asia-Pacific market, and El Ansari would have played a big role in that before departing for Dropmysite. At the same time, attaching the Google name to Dropmysite in an even small way should help to boost its marketability.
