DocuSign Ends Lengthy CEO Search, Appoints SaaS Veteran Daniel Springer

DocuSign has finally named a new CEO, nearly 15 months after the company’s former CEO Keith Krach said he would step down from the role.

In an announcement on Wednesday, DocuSign said that it has named Daniel Springer CEO to lead the electronic signature technology provider. Springer brings 25 years of executive leadership experience to the role, including experience in the Software-as-a-Service industry. Krach will continue on the DocuSign board as chairman.

Prior to DocuSign, Springer served as chairman and CEO at Responsys for 10 years. During his time there he scaled the business from private startup to a publicly traded company, eventually leading its sale to Oracle in 2014 for $1.6 billion.

Springer’s experience in taking a company public could be a sign of things to come for the Seattle and San Francisco-based DocuSign. In an interview with GeekWire in November, Krach said that the company is in no hurry to go public, but it seems Springer’s appointment could help expedite the process when the company decides the time is right. Krach told Geekwire that he plans to stay engaged in DocuSign for at least three years after finding a new CEO.

“DocuSign has delivered tremendous value for hundreds of thousands of companies and millions of consumers around the world by providing them with a faster, easier and more secure set of services for their digital transformation journey,” Dan Springer, CEO at DocuSign said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to join a team of such highly passionate leaders and employees so deeply focused on customer success. I look forward to leading the next chapter of DocuSign innovations to bring even more value to our customers, developers and partners around the world.”

“After our comprehensive CEO search, I am confident that Dan is the right leader to continue our hyper growth, further strengthen our preeminence in the market, and further inspire the innovative, entrepreneurial, values-based culture of DocuSign,” Keith Krach, Chairman of the Board at DocuSign said. “Dan brings an exceptional track record of executive leadership, along with deep SaaS expertise and public company experience. As we pursue one of the largest strategic markets in the cloud today, we must continue to sprint this marathon, and I could not be passing the baton to a better person and leader than Dan.”

Previously, Springer was managing director of Modern Media and also served as CEO at Telleo, Inc., CMO at NextCard, and a consultant at McKinsey & Company.
