CommVault and Dell Ink Deeper Data Management Deal
Back in September 2010, we noted that CommVault and Dell had teamed up to build a backup-to-disk solution incorporating the technologies of both companies. Now they’re joining forces again, this time to push “intelligent” data management solutions across all of Dell’s DX Object Store and PowerVault DL platforms. Read on for the details…
Here’s how it works: CommVault’s Simpana 9 Software will bring data-retention lifecycle management with snapshot integration and de-duplication to Dell’s DX Object Storage Platform. On the surface that means reduced costs, better data efficiencies and an integrated platform on which to layer mission-critical data. That also means compliance, which equates to peace of mind should the government or legal department come knocking at your data center.
Simpana on the DX platform also can organize and archive content, freeing up disk space thanks to more granular tweaks to the intelligence handling how data gets stored and for how long. Plus, both the DL and DX platforms can be managed from the same console — a bonus for anyone working in the IT department and managing storage implementation.
The price tag? Both the Dell DX Object Storage Platform and PowerVault DL Appliance are available, with the PowerVault DL Appliance with Simpana list-priced at $20,000 ($40,000 if you want deduplication support and three-year maintenance).
The channel angle? Partners have yet another tool for data backup and archiving and that’s good news, especially since the amount of data is rising exponentially.
