CloudSigma and OpenVPN have partnered to provide small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with remote access to public cloud deployments by integrating an open-source OpenVPN server into CloudSigma’s cloud hosting platform.

Announced this week, the newly formed relationship makes it possible to place an OpenVPN appliance into the CloudSigma cloud to provide remote workers with access to cloud deployments through a virtual private network (VPN), protecting company data from the security risks of the Internet.

The companies said the CloudSigma OpenVPN appliance also gives IT departments the “ability to better control or limit access to company data, which can be done easily through the Access Server administrative user interface and granular access control features.”

CloudSigma CEO Robert Jenkins said in a statement that there aren’t a lot of cloud providers that “allow customers to have servers residing on their internal network.”

“But, by allowing direct connections to our VLAN, we are creating a more secure compute environment that is as easily accessible as on-premise infrastructure, but with all the flexibility and scalability of a public cloud,” he said.
