CloudOne, IBM Introduce Services to the Public Sector

More CloudOne news from IBM Innovate this week. The SaaS provider and IBM (NYSE: IBM) Premier Business Partner announced it will provide its cloud-based Rational tools for public sector customers through IBM’s SmartCloud for Government infrastructure. The solution, according to CloudOne, combines IBM’s government-specific capabilities, which comply with FISMA standards, with its SaaS-based Rational tools and managed services.

According to the press release, feature of IBM’s SmartCloud for Government include a commercial, off-the-shelf-based architecture; defined compute capacity virtual server instances with options for expandable memory, disk space, bandwidth, standard operating systems and dedicated firewalls and load balancers; and software services including e-mail, real-time collaboration and social tools. In IBM’s and CloudOne’s view, the government offering provides “cost-effective software development solutions able to meet myriad government requirements.”

“The combined offering is the best of both companies,” said Randy Seager, vice president of Strategic Accounts at CloudOne, in a prepared statement. “By building up from a strong infrastructure service and then layering on CloudOne offerings for SaaS licensing as well as our managed services, we can meet the needs of clients demanding software development in the cloud with higher security and data integrity requirements. With this solution, many public-sector clients requiring the strict security of a FISMA-compliant development environments now can get access to the Rational tools with the benefits CloudOne offers.”

Earlier at IBM Innovate, CloudOne announced a new reseller program designed to enlarge the company’s global reach through its partner ecosystem, and also expanded its hosted SaaS testing program to offer performance, load and stress tests payable in hourly increments.
