Cloud Management: Apple iPad, Windows Phone Get SoftLayer App

Cloud and managed hosting specialist SoftLayer has upgraded its mobile app with compatibility for Microsoft Windows Phone 7 and Apple iPad devices, giving service providers everywhere the ability to manage their cloud deployments on the go.

Of course, I’m sure many cloud service providers were using the iPhone app on their iPads, but that gets unwieldy — the iPad has a much larger screen, obviously, than the iPhone’s, and that just doesn’t work for the long haul. Enter the so-called SoftLayer Mobile HD app.

As with the provider’s other mobile apps, the new Windows Phone 7 and iPad tools get the following suite of functionality, as per the press release:

  • Tickets—Quickly create a new ticket for a support request or view existing support tickets and check their statuses.

  • Servers—View performance details and control basic functions for your SoftLayer Dedicated Servers and CloudLayer Computing Instances. Easily turn a server off or on, ping the server to test its network availability, or reboot.

  • Bandwidth—Monitor the bandwidth usage of your SoftLayer Dedicated Servers and CloudLayer Computing Instance.

  • Accounting—Get up-to-date account information and view and download invoices.

SoftLayer Mobile for Windows Phone 7 is available as a free download through Microsoft Marketplace and SoftLayer Mobile HD for iPad is available for free through the iTunes Store, according to SoftLayer.

And the garden-variety Apple iPod Touch and and iPhone apps have received updates too, so take a look if that interests you. Just don’t forget amid the Apple iOS and Windows Phone love there’s a Google Android version, too.
