Cloud, ISVs Main Focus for Oracle FY17 Global Partner Kickoff

Oracle partners who didn’t get the company’s cloud strategy message last year heard it again this week at this year’s virtual Oracle FY17 Partner Kickoff — to drive a shared strategic goal of migrating clients to Oracle cloud technologies and away from a legacy on-premises environment.

Along those lines, the centerpiece of Oracle’s message to partners was its focus on independent software vendors (ISVs) and the launch, this week, of Oracle Cloud Platform Ready for ISVs.

“For us our focus is on partners who specialize or whose primary business is as an ISV. Our organization has worked with resellers, distributors, VARs and even customers who are doing IP development and we’ll still continue to do that but we’re really doubling down our focus on what I would call ISVs who exist to develop software and get it out to the market — particularly the ones who want to get it out and into our Oracle public cloud,” said Dan Miller, senior vice president, Oracle ISV, OEM and Java business development.{ad}

Calling it a fast track to cloud, Oracle Cloud Platform Ready speeds up the time it takes for partners to register and publish their Oracle Cloud-compatible applications on the Oracle Cloud Marketplace.

Miller provided partners with several action points:

  • All ISVs should register their application in the Oracle Cloud Marketplace, even if it’s still an on-premises application, in order to get visibility with Oracle’s 400,000-plus enterprise customers.

  • Get educated. Oracle offers technical and business workshops and engagements for partners to learn about cloud, in general, and how Oracle’s cloud could be a differentiator for them.

  • Elevate the cloud journey conversation inside your own partner firm.

  • Engage with Oracle on a daily basis especially where a partner may have challenges or gaps. The vendor has technical experts ready to help partners.

Oracle Cloud Platform Ready targets Oracle Partner Network (OPN) Silver level members or higher.

Penny Philpot, worldwide alliances and channels, group vice president at Oracle, noted that the company’s 25,000 partners make up 70 percent of all Oracle transactions.
