Cloud Cruiser Offers Cost Management for OpenStack Clouds
Developer Cloud Cruiser has brought its trademarked approach to cost management to increasingly popular OpenStack cloud environments. The overall goal, according to Cloud Cruiser, is to give service providers deeper insight into capex and opex costs in heterogeneous cloud computing environments.
Dave Zabrowski, founder and CEO of Cloud Cruiser, had this to say in a prepared statement:
“OpenStack has gained tremendous industry traction and is poised to emerge as the Linux of cloud computing; the open sourced alternative to proprietary solutions. By offering the industry’s first cost management solution for OpenStack, users will now have the capability to gain control of costs and visibility of their cloud-based computing environments with new tools to measure, manage and optimize capex and opex costs.”
The real upshot of Cloud Cruiser’s announcement is that it could potentially boost the emerging OpenStack standard with enterprises. The technical aspects of the OpenStack community’s contributions are fine, but technology such as Cloud Cruiser — which offers up data that makes as much sense to CFOs as it does to CTOs — is sure to help with the pitch.
After all, if a major selling point of OpenStack is the cost efficiency over its more proprietary rivals, it’s nice to have a solution that can prove it.
