BroadSoft Takes UC into the Cloud with BroadTouch Portal
BroadSoft is looking to shake things up in the unified communications world with BroadTouch, a platform-agnostic UC solution that can bring UC technology to almost any device with an Internet connection. How does it work, and is it game-changing? Read on for the details.
BroadSoft CEO Michael Tessler had this to say in a prepared statement …
BroadTouch will eliminate the need for enterprise end users and consumers to use multiple clients for each communication service and instead provide a single application for all their communications services — from any device and any location.”
Bold words. So how does BroadSoft plan to do this? BroadTouch is essentially a cloud-based portal for all the UC needs a company could ever have. BroadTouch supports Mac and PC, iOS and Android, and likely any other mobile platform with web access and a microphone. It’s all done through BroadCloud and BroadWorks, which, when combined, provides “a range of user experience applications.”
The crown jewel of the platform is Business Communicator, which is essentially a dashboard for all forms of UC from the coveted videoconference to lowly presence features. BroadTouch also allows for customization to address customer needs or the specific UC task at hand. According to BroadSoft, BroadTouch is just as useful for a receptionist as it is for call centers.
BroadTouch by itself doesn’t change the entire UC scene, but it does confirm the idea that consumerization of IT is taking over the IT space. BroadSoft’s UC platform could also spark new trends in cloud-based UC technology with a focus on cross-platform mobility.
