UserActivation for Office 365 allows Microsoft channel partners to more easily migrate customers into Microsoft's cloud and SaaS services. Here's how.

BitTitan Inc. has launched UserActivation for Office 365. If it works as advertised, the tool may help channel partners migrate customers to Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) cloud services — including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Lync Online and more. The VAR Guy wonders if Windows Small Business Server (SBS) partners will be among the first users to try this new migration tool. Here’s why.
BitTitan claims UserActivation for Office 365 can:
“automate the entire process of migrating customers to the newest wave of Microsoft Office 365 while retaining full Partner of Record (POR) status… Microsoft US Partners can specify their Microsoft Partner ID during the activation process. This feature allows Partners to receive all advisor residuals and partner benefits, with the option to also own the subscription billing process on behalf of their customers.”
Moreover, BitTitan is waiving the $299 activation fee for projects with 250 or fewer users through April 1, 2013. According to the company, the tool “recommends the most cost-effective subscription for each user based on their specified feature requirements. It then automatically configures domain settings, provisions user accounts, migrates mailbox data, and configures Outlook. The fully automated solution allows Partners to eliminate all repetitive onboarding tasks, and to accelerate adoption of Office 365 by end-users.”
Potential Implications
The VAR Guy has not tested the tool, so he can’t directly endorse it. But he’s intrigued for a range of reasons:
Microsoft launched new Office 365 for Business capabilities on Feb. 27. Perhaps BitTitan will help partners to accelerate customer adoption of those services.
Microsoft killed Windows Small Business Server (SBS) development in 2012. Many SBS partners are still testing the Office 365 waters. Perhaps migration tools like BitTitan will help convince more partners to get onboard.
Either way, it’s good to see a growing third-party ecosystem of Office 365 tools for partners and customers.
