The Cloud Advisory Council added another subgroup to its team recently, forming the Open BigCloud team. As described in this article from Businesscloudnews.com, “The primary objective will be to explore how data processing-intensive workloads can be executed in open source cloud environments.” The goal is to advance progress in the realm of how infrastructure clouds can be harnessed at extreme scales of computing, data processing, and interaction.

Any MSP that offers cloud services should keep an eye on this group, including those who are offering cloud-based file sharing. The article lists the new group's objectives as:

Findings of this new group could have a large impact on the way that many cloud providers are able to offer these extreme computing services, and therefore how MSPs can offer them to clients as well. Through collaboration across the sector, the Open BigCloud group hopes to innovate new projects in the context of open source projects like OpenStack and Open Compute.

“The BigCloud foundation intends to enhance the international conversation by investigating cloud and big data from workload perspective,” says Paul Rad, Vice President of open research, Rackspace.

As Open BigCloud and the Cloud Advisory Council continue to explore new ways that cloud services can be harnessed as well as defining new principles and guidelines, MSPs will reap the benefits in the form of cloud services that available to their clients becoming better, stronger, and more accessible.

The Cloud Advisory Council is a not-for-profit organization that aims to help develop and guide the next generation of cloud architecture, provide designers and manager with tools to use cloud services, to strengthen the qualification and integration of cloud solutions and to provide best practices. It is composed of members from all different industries, including equipment manufacturing, independent software vendors and end users.

This can be an extremely valuable resource for MSPs that are constantly utilizing cloud services and applications, as they aim to provide information and guides concerning the entire cloud industry.
