AWS Expands VPS Service Amazon Lightsail to More Regions

Brought to you by The WHIR

Amazon Web Services is expanding its VPS services, called Amazon Lightsail, into nine more AWS regions and launching a new global console.

AWS launched Lightsail at its re:Invent conference last year as an easy-to-use and inexpensive VPS service, starting at $5 per month. The service competes with VPS providers like Linode, DigitalOcean and Vultr, which similarly target developer customers.

Previously, Amazon Lightsail was only available in the US East Region, adding support for several additional Regions in the US and Europe. As of Thursday Lightsail is available in four of its Asia Pacific Regions. Here’s the list of supported regions:

  • US East (Northern Virginia)

  • US West (Oregon)

  • US East (Ohio)

  • EU (London)

  • EU (Frankfurt)

  • EU (Ireland)

  • Asia Pacific (Mumbai)

  • Asia Pacific (Tokyo)

  • Asia Pacific (Singapore)

  • Asia Pacific (Sydney)

The updated console allows users to create and manage resources in one or more Regions.
