Avere Systems Introduces Avere GNS in Avere OS 2.0

Avere Systems want to take the cloud and pin it down using its multivendor NAS services with enhanced functionality. The company has introduced global namespace (GNS) functionality across the entire FXT scale-out NAS appliance family, complete with the latest Avere operating system. Read on for the details …

Avere GNS enables a single “namespace” view across all NAS storage servers throughout the enterprise. Essentially, this allows for a full unification of “islands of NAS” from different vendors for better control.

Avere‘s GNS offers admins a number of perks, including the ability to create and manage logical groupings of file-based resources regardless of physical location, giving clients running NFS or CIFS simplified and transparent access to data with a single mount point; and rerouting of client access with no disruption or downtime during data moves

GNS, available now via the 2.0 release of the Avere operating system, compliments Avere’s Tiered File System, designed specifically to handle multiple storage tiers to help increase storage efficiency.
