Attunity Manages Big Data with Amazon Web Services

Moving Big Data around the cloud is no easy task, but Attunity hopes to make it easier for users of Amazon Web Services with a new software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering called CloudBeam it’s now testing with customers.

Now available for testing with Amazon Web Services (NASDAQ: AMZN) customers, Attunity CloudBeam is meant to be a simple cloud service that provides “high performance solutions for moving big data in, out and across AWS cloud data centers quickly and easily.” Naturally, this service isn’t meant for just any application’s worth of data, but mission-critical apps such as business analytics and disaster recovery — instances where being able to access and move Big Data around as quickly as possible is not only a nice to have, but a need to have.

That’s not always an easy thing to do when it comes to the cloud, but SaaS vendors are stepping up to help customers and their channel partners tackle the overall challenge of managing and accessing big data in the cloud. The ability for Attunity to launch CloudBeam came as a result of its 2011 acquisition of RepliWeb, and according to chairman and company CEO Shimon Alon, CloudBeam provides “a truly elastic, high-performance, and easy to use SaaS platform” that meets the data transfer needs of Amazon Web Services customers.

Attunity claims its new CloudBeam service is easy to use and can handle service loads up to 100 times faster than Amazon S3 Enhanced Uploader. At the same time, the SaaS offering is able to do S3-to-S3 data replication fast and secure, according to the company. With no hardware or software setup, CloudBeam’s purpose is to make Big Data transfer faster, more reliable and done with the simple click of a button.

Cloud PaaS providers such as Amazon Web Services can play a critical role in any disaster recovery and business continuity plan (provided the PaaS itself doesn’t crash), making it easier and quicker for business that do experience the unthinkable to get themselves back up and running with minimal fuss. Being able to do so quickly and securely is critical to any business, providing a huge opportunity for the channel to play the trusted adviser role.
