AT&T (T) will migrate 150,000 Shell (ADR) contractors and employees in over 50 countries to a new unified communications (UC) platform. The companies this week announced a five-year agreement that will enable Shell contractors and employees to share data with one another via Android, iOS, Windows and Windows Phone operating systems in a fully managed environment.

The Dallas-based telecommunications giant added these solutions can be integrated with business applications such as customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP).

AT&T said its UC solutions provide:

  • Conferencing

  • Email

  • Messaging

  • Voice capabilities

AT&T’s UC platform will enable Shell contractors and employees to connect with one another via:

  • Application sharing

  • Instant messaging

  • Video, voice and web conferencing

The new agreement represents AT&T’s most comprehensive UC deployment to date for a single business customer.

“It’s been enormously rewarding to work with Shell, which operates in a dynamic and highly globalized industry,” AT&T Senior Vice President Mark Shine said in a prepared statement. “We’re helping them save money by providing the framework for a mobile environment. AT&T is delivering what it does best so Shell can focus on its core business — providing energy products and solutions for consumers and businesses around the world.”

How does the UC platform work?

AT&T noted the UC platform allows users to share data, video and voice files across all major mobile operating platforms.

Shell contractors and employees can use AT&T’s UC platform to interact with one another via devices such as:

  • PCs

  • Smartphones

  • Tablets

AT&T said the UC platform can help create a more efficient work environment for Shell contractors and employees and allows them to complete tasks remotely as well.
