Messaging and collaboration solutions provider Atmail has announced a private email hardware appliance aimed squarely at small and mid-sized businesses and priced to move at $1,995. Here’s the scoop.

The Atmail S-Class Email Appliance, as they’re calling it, is designed to be a “complete messaging solution in a box,” as the press release puts it. It incorporates their proprietary Atmail Email Server platform to provide email, webmail, and collaboration for up to 200 users.

Hardware-wise, the S-Class Appliance is powered by a 64-bit dual core processor and enough storage to provide those 200 users each with a 1GB mailbox. It also includes integrated Spamassassin Anti-Spam and ClamAV Anti-Virus engines, a web calendar interface, and groupware support.

The problem is that if you want to hit that 200-user sweet spot, you have to pay for it. The S-Class S50-200 comes with 50 user licenses, with each additional 50 available from Atmail as a package for $200.

If that sounds good to you, the Atmail S-Class Appliance is available through direct sales on July 14, 2010, and to resellers “in the near future.”
