Asigra Partner Summit: Cloud Storage Odds and Ends
I spent all day June 7, 2011, at the Asigra Partner Summit in Toronto, and you can see the details of Asigra’s big announcements here on TalkinCloud and over at our sister site, MSPmentor. But I didn’t cover everything Asigra had to say – and some of the MSP cloud storage providers in attendance had some interesting feedback, too.
Here’s a quick-hit recap of my final Asigra partner conference thoughts.
- Despite the fact that Asigra launched a new version of its flagship storage platform, much of the conference was focused not on technology but on marketing. Sessions had titles including, “How to Craft Your Company’s Elevator Pitch,” (long story short: get to the point and highlight value, not specific services) and, “How to Segment B2B Customers.” But most tellingly: Asigra CEO David Farajun’s presentation during the event was followed by Gartner Research Director Richard Fouts, who had a presentation titled, “Why Marketing Matters: How to Rise Above the Noise.” Obviously, Asigra’s concerned less with its product and more with facilitating efforts to sell it.
- Asigra is boasting 400,000 customer sites have deployed Asigra Cloud Backup by way of its partner base – a 60 percent boost year over year.
- I had the chance to chat briefly with David Smith, senior director of Partner Development, about some changes Asigra’s partner program is going through. Basically, Asigra has stopped its efforts to aggressively recruit partners and started to reach out and figure out how best to grow its business. With only 10 weeks in his position, Smith didn’t have any milestones to share – yet. But he’s recruited his team, and he said he’s already met with at least a hundred MSPs, so stay tuned for more details and insights.
- In that same vein, Asigra’s team promised updates to the “Powered by Asigra” program that will take it beyond just being a seal of approval.
We’ll be watching closely to see how Asigra’s claims turn out in the real world going forward, so stay tuned for updates.
