Amazon Web Services has launched a new cloud region in Mumbai, India, marking the public cloud providers 13th global cloud region.

Mumbai has two Availability Zones, bringing AWS’ total to 35 worldwide. The Mumbai region supports a range of AWS cloud services including EC2, Amazon EBS, Amazon Virtual Private Cloud, and Elastic Load Balancing.

The news closely follows AWS’ launch of its AWS Government Competency and AWS GovCloud Skill Program last week. 

According to AWS, there are now three edge locations in India: Mumbai, Chennai, and New Delhi, respectively. Since 2011, AWS has opened six offices in India to support its customer base.

India represents a huge opportunity for AWS, with over 75,000 active AWS customers in India already, including Ola Cabs, NDTV, Tata Motors Limited,  redBus, Hotsar and Macmillan India.

AWS also has a number of partners in India including AWS Premier Consulting Partners BlazeCan Technologies, Minjar Cloud Solutions, and WiPro; AWS Consulting Partners Accenture, Cloudcover, and WiPro; and AWS Technology Partners including Freshdesk, Druva, and Leadsquared. AWS Managed Service Providers and AWS Direct Connect Partners are also in India.
