HP Comes to Terms With the Cloud
Is HP getting out of the cloud services business and leaving it to competitors such as Amazon Web Services (AWS)? HP plans to split into two companies later this year – one that will focus on business technology and another that emphasizes PCs and printers – and appears to be ceding the public cloud. “We thought people would rent or buy computing from us,” Bill Hilf, head of HP’s cloud business, told The New York Times. “It turns out that it makes no sense for us to go head-to-head.”
SolarWinds Introduces Cloud-Centric Database Performance Management in AWS Marketplace
IT management software provider SolarWinds has released a new version of its Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) platform that is now available on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. The new release “enables database-centric application performance management for apps hosted in the cloud,” according to SolarWinds.
Soha Systems Unfurls Cloud Security Service
Application security company Soha Systems has launched Soha Cloud, a service that enables companies to securely run apps in any cloud environment. Soha Cloud takes less than 15 minutes to deploy, Soha Systems said, and allows customers “to deploy a multi-layered line of defense between their applications and the Internet.”
Vormetric Announces Cloud Encryption Gateway – Protects Data within AWS S3 and Box
Data security solutions provider Vormetric has unveiled Vormetric Cloud Encryption Gateway, which helps enterprises secure sensitive data residing in AWS Simple Storage Service (S3) and Box environments with encryption, key management and access controls. Vormetric said this gateway ensures data is encrypted before it is saved to cloud storage, while encryption keys and access policies are always under enterprise control.

Santa Clara, California-based cloud security startup Palerra has secured $17 million in Series B financing, bringing its total funding raised to $25 million.
