What Attracted New U.S. Channel Chief to Trend Micro?
Mungall says two primary factors drove his decision to join Trend Micro:
The VAR Guy connected with new Trend Micro U.S. Channel Chief Stephen Mungall earlier today. Our resident blogger had two key questions: What attracted Mungall to Trend Micro? Plus, what are Mungall’s top priorities as he settles in at Trend Micro? Here’s a recap of the conversation.
Mungall says two primary factors drove his decision to join Trend Micro:
- “They’ve got an incredible portfolio of products.”
- “They’re 100 percent focused on the channel, from the CEO on down.”
Mungall previously worked at Lenovo until about 2008, and he’s been consulting since that time. He joined Trend Micro about two weeks ago, with a public announcement coming two days ago.
Next up, Mungall plans to listen closely to partners — exploring ways to offer them additional recurring revenue and services opportunities. Trend Micro also is developing plans for a partner and customer conference in the second half of 2010, though firm details have yet to be announced, Mungall says.
And by the end of 2010, it sounds like Trend Micro plans to promote combined security, online storage and business continuity services that VARs and MSPs can offer to SMB customers. Portions of the effort will leverage Trend Micro’s June 2010 Humyo acquisition, confirms VP of U.S. Marketing Dan Woodward.
Even before Mungall arrived, Trend Micro seemed to be gaining some momentum with MSPs seeking managed security solutions. True believers include HTG Peer Groups Founder Arlin Sorensen, who now safeguards more than 1,000 customer endpoints leveraging Trend Micro’s software.
The VAR Guy will be watching to see if Mungall manages to build on that momentum.
