Update: Why Luanne Tierney Jumped From Cisco to Juniper
Why’d she do it? That’s the question The VAR Guy has been asking ever since Luanne Tierney, former VP of marketing for Cisco’s Worldwide Partner Organization, decided to join Juniper Networks, effective February 7, 2011. At last, The VAR Guy has found the answer to the riddle. And it comes straight from Tierney.
No, Tierney wasn’t looking to leave Cisco Systems. But when Juniper came calling with a VP of global marketing opportunity, Tierney was intrigued. “I want to be very clear,” Tierney told The VAR Guy. “My decision had nothing to do with wanting to compete with Cisco. It’s like leaving a family. But I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to build everything from the ground up. How many times does an opportunity like that come along?”
During a phone chat today, Tierney spoke highly of her former Cisco peers. But she also thinks highly of Juniper’s growing channel and management team — mentioning a boatload of folks — including Lauren Flaherty, Juniper’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “Lauren is amazing,” said Tierney.
Tierney’s shift to Juniper comes amid multiple hires at the security and networking company. The VAR Guy will check in with Tierney again once her new position starts on February 7. In the meantime she’s essentially off the grid… but apparently willing to take calls from anonymous channel bloggers…
