Nexenta and Supermicro Announce Storage Partnership
Problem: enterprise-grade storage is costly and time-consuming to set up. One potential solution comes in the form of the newly-announced partnership between storage solution vendor Nexenta Systems and well-known server technology developer Supermicro to give VARs what they describe as “rack it, stack it” affordable enterprise storage. Here’s the scoop.
When Nexenta launched its Technology Partner Program earlier in the summer, it gave vendors the opportunity to precertify their hardware and give IT staff and administrators a guarantee of compatibility with the flagship NexentaStor unified storage management platform, which The VAR Guy described in some detail here.
Supermicro, now the latest enrollee in that program, has certified their 3U Super Storage Bay (SBB) solution, a dual-processor system that the company says it optimized for mission-critical storage applications. Nexenta CEO Evan Powell describes the offering as a “cluster in a box,” helping partners eliminate the multiple points of failure found in more complex deployments.
“It’s more selling, less cabling,” Powell says.
Another part of the announcement is that 7 Supermicro resellers will be joining the Nexenta partner program, selling the combined solution. As always, the question is whether or not customers will bite.
