New Symantec CEO, Channel Chief Step Into Spotlight
New Symantec (NASDAQ: SYMC) CEO Steve Bennett (l.) and Channel Chief John Eldh (r.) appear set to meet channel partners Sept. 11-12 in Baltimore, Md. What will their message be during Symantec Partner Engage? Here are some clues from The VAR Guy.
First, some background. Symantec’s board ousted former CEO Enrique Salem in July 2012, thanking him for his efforts but ultimately stating that Symantec can perform even better. At the time, board member and new CEO Bennett promised to perform a three- to four-month review of Symantec’s overall business.
Ever since the CEO change, there have been occasional rumors that Bennett may look to sell or spin-off Symantec’s storage business — formed by the 2005 Veritas acquisition. But let’s slow down a bit, folks. Bennett has been on the job for less than two months.
Meanwhile, Symantec Channel Chief John Eldh also is fairly new to the position. During a recent interview with Charlene O’Hanlon, Eldh said the software company needs to more aggressively promote a “teaming” concept, where Symantec’s sales team works more closely with partners.
It’s safe to expect Eldh to reinforce that message at Symantec Partner Engage. But what will Bennett tell attendees?
Hmmm… Surely, he’ll offer his commitment to partners. The big question is what he may potentially say during private meetings — perhaps even picking partners’ brains for their ideas on how to unlock more value at Symantec.
Either way, The VAR Guy has his eyes and ears tuned into the situation.
