Laplink, Ingram Micro Offer Free Windows 7 Upgrade Tool To Channel
Distributor Ingram Micro has announced that from next week through the end of September, they’re going to be bundling a specialized version of Laplink’s PCmover migration assistant with every purchase of Microsoft Windows 7 for their reseller partners. The companies are calling it the “MoveNow” program, and it’s designed to give VARs an edge when bringing customers up-to-date. Here’s the scoop.
The MoveNow program, which runs July 19 through September 30, means that every Windows 7 Open License sold through Ingram Micro U.S. comes with PCmover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant, which is designed to keep the “personality” of the machine intact even as you bring them from an older operating system. The VAR Guy discussed Laplink and PCmover in more depth here.
What this deal means for Ingram Micro’s reseller partners is that they can offer customers a huge value-add with no additional cost to themselves. While enthusiasm for Windows 7 has cooled off a little bit since its launch, there’s still plenty of demand for upgrades among SMBs.
