Cisco’s Jim Sherriff: SMB Among Top 3 Partner Priorities
The VAR Guy visited Cisco Senior VP Jim Sherriff (pictured) last week. As Cisco’s new head of U.S. and Canada channels, Sherriff says he’ll focus on three core priorities over the next few months. What are they? Hmmm… No doubt, commercial and SMB channel opportunities rank near the top of the list. But that’s not all…
…sources not named Sherriff say Cisco will likely announce a commercial channel partner update within the next 30 to 60 days. And during an August 9 meeting in Austin, Texas, Sherriff shared the following observations:
Within the FastChat video, Sherriff describes:
- 0:08: What attracted him to the Cisco U.S. and Canada channel lead opportunity
- 0:26: Sherriff’s top three near-term priorities — including SMB and commercial opportunities for partners
- 1:09: Sherriff’s message to channel partners who have yet to meet him
Sherriff certainly isn’t working in a vacuum. From where The VAR Guy sits, it sounds like Sherriff has been in constant contact with VP of Small Business Sales Andrew Sage and VP of Worldwide Commercial Sales Dave O’Callaghan.
The VAR Guy’s best guess: Cisco will announce a formal commercial channel partner update within 30 to 60 days. Our resident blogger suspects the effort will include traditional partners as well as emerging cloud partners.
The commercial effort follows a Cisco earnings statement on Aug. 12, 2010, that made some investors nervous.
