Cisco Partner Summit 2009: Oracle Will Be In the House
When the Cisco Systems Partner Summit 2009 kicks off June 2 in Boston, a key Oracle channel representative will be present. The VAR Guy isn’t predicting big Oracle-Cisco news, but Oracle’s presence and interest in the Cisco event highlights how the worlds of networking and software continue to converge.
First, a little background. The VAR Guy hears Lydia Smyers, senior director for Oracle Worldwide Alliance and Channels, plans to attend Cisco Partner Summit for its duration. And yes, The VAR Guy plans to grab some time with Smyers.
Yes, Cisco and Oracle have a longstanding relationship. Cisco and Oracle have been partnering on Cisco’s Data Center 3.0 strategy. More recently, Oracle endorsed Cisco’s Unified Computing System strategy, which includes Cisco’s server push.
Although it’s easy to overlook, Oracle could be a particularly strategic partner to Cisco Systems over the next few years.
As Cisco competes with Microsoft in the unified communications market and pushes deeper into video content applications, the networking giant is going to need to work closely with partners that understand how to manage structured and unstructured data. Surely, Oracle fits that partner description.
The VAR Guy will seek more perspectives from Oracle’s Smyer’s at the Cisco Partner Summit.
