Bocada Launches Prism R2 Data Protection Service
Bocada’s Prism data protection and management suite is getting an overhaul with Prism R2. Designed to intuitive and provide useful information at a glance, Prism R2 is being touted as the first and only “multi-phased Data Protection Service Management model.” Here’s the details…
Analysis and trending reports were a paramount part of Prism. The new Prism R2 continues that trend, with Bocada adding “five new trending reports” to help VARs get a handle on customer data. The key goal is to optimize the performance of customers’ network and storage based on these reports, and because of that, Prism R2’s target is large enterprise networks, or the existing original Prism install base.
Trends that may be helpful to you:
- Backup Trends
- Backup Duration Trends
- Media Usage Trends
- Occupancy Trends – (how overall storage changes over time)
- Error Trends
I spoke to Nancy Hurley, CEO of Bocada regarding the launch and channel strategy. Prism has implications for MSPs and SaaS vendors (IBM being one of the big vendors she noted), but Hurley provided color regarding Bocada’s strategy with traditional channel partners like VARs:
“We have our focus where all end-user business we want to put through the channel, but we are directly going after the MSP and SaaS market with our product…We have a great deal of experience [with that market].”
Hurley also says Bocada will help users migrate to R2, but eventually those migration services will be open to select trained partners later in 2011. Hurley noted that there is a significant number of customers who will eventually want and need the migration, and partner help will be welcomed.
