ViaWest Promotes Carolan to CTO; Drives Managed and Cloud Services
ViaWest, the cloud and managed services provider, has promoted Jason Carolan (pictured) into the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) post. In the newly-created role, Carolan will be responsible for developing a strategic direction for all of the MSP’s products and technology initiatives.
Carolan spent a large part of his career as a network and systems architecture engineer at Sun Microsystems before becoming the Director of Cloud Services Engineering at VMware. Carolan joined the cloud and managed services provider in 2011 as the ViaWest VP of Product Development and introduced the ViaWest KINECTed Cloud and KINECTed Storage products.
“Jason’s breadth of experience and leadership will help to assure ViaWest’s continued success in building a product portfolio and solutions that are centered around customers’ needs,” ViaWest Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Co-founder Nancy Phillips said in a prepared statement.
ViaWest has not gone into specifics about what Carolan will do in order to develop a product strategy for ViaWest, but Joe Panettieri did catch up with Carolan just days after Carolan he moved into the new slot. At the time, Carolan and others identified three ways that MSPs can distinguish their services in the cloud: develop a customer service strategy, develop a vertical market strategy and develop a compliance strategy.
